Martin Pizzarelli Trio

  • Shanghai Jazz 24 Main Street Madison, NJ, 07940 United States (map)

A member of New Jersey’s first jazz family, Martin Pizzarelli’s impressive career as a bass player spans several decades and includes dozens of record dates and hundreds of concerts around the globe in various formations, often accompanying his father. Among his peers, he is considered one of the most swinging bassists on the scene and a “keeper of the flame” who masters the style like no one else today.

In 2016, Martin decided to form his own trio, which he often expands to feature additional guest stars. His core collaborators are two young and energetic forces of the New York jazz scene, pianist Hyuna Park and drummer Karl Latham.

Hyuna Park is originally from South Korea and moved to NYC in 2010 to attend Queens College from where she graduated with a Masters Degree in 2011 and received the Jimmy Heath Award. She is also the 2018 winner of the International Women in Jazz (IWJ) festival and successfully leads her own trio.

Karl's Latham’s career has spanned the globe performing, recording with and producing with Grammy Award winning artists, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members and multitude of internationally acclaimed musicians.  As a freelance drummer Karl has performed The Shirelles; The Real Deal Big Band; John Lee (with Slide Hampton; Clark Terry; Tomoko Ohno;  Sharrel Cassidy; Yotam Silberstein; Jon Faddis), The Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars; The Fantasy Band (Dave Valentine; Dave Samuels; Chuck Loeb, Noel Pointer, Victor Bailey, Cornell Dupree, Roy Ayers, Larry Coryell);  Howard Paul with guests Tom Scott, Anat Cohen, Laurence Hobgood and Jody Espina; Johannes Mossinger Quartet (with Joel Frahm, Don Braden, Seamus Blake, Johannes Enders, Andy Hunter and Joe Lovano); Bob Gluck; Christopher Dean Sullivan; Pete Levin; Dave Stryker; Will Lee; Stefanie Schlesinger; Wolfgang Lackerschmid (John Lee, Cameron Brown, Michal Urbaniak, Attila Zoller, Randy Brecker, Ryan Carniaux and Mark Egan); Ali Ryerson; The Bernie Worrell Orchestra; Charlie Elgart; Michal Urbaniak; Jerry Vivino; Andy Snitzer; Edgar Winter; Johnny Winter;  Karl has subbed on the Broadway productions of "Bring It On" , "Hamilton", "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" and "Ain't Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations".  Karl is an adjunct professor at Drew University, County College of Morris and Passaic County Community College.
