Amani with Rio Clemente

  • Shanghai Jazz 24 Main Street Madison, NJ, 07940 United States (map)

Marty Eigen’s AMANI performs regularly here at Shanghai Jazz. He doubles on Sax, clarinet, and flute. He is also a regular at the Morris Museum’s Bickford Theatre and the Watchung Arts Center. His group, FLUTE JUICE, featuring Gene Perla, has also debuted at Shanghai Jazz.

Anyone who has listened to Rio Clemente play piano comes away in awe. This master pianist combines a strong classical background with a deep understanding of jazz history, then adds an exceptional sense of creativity and interpretation, seamlessly intertwining classical themes. The result is music that is different from others. Reo has played with such luminaries as Clark Terry, Joe Venuti, Benny Golson, Milt Hinton, Les Paul, Jose Feliciano, Milt Jackson, Florence Henderson, and many more. He also concertized in Europe and performed at the White House.

Alex Gressel, Bass Since his start playing in Austrian theaters, bassist Alex Gressel has had the great fortune to play with world-class but somewhat obscure musicians such as the originator of Bossa Nova and Samba Jazz drumming Edison Machado, his mentor, the Danish multi-talent Marilyn Mazur, alto sax giant Clarence “C” Sharpe, the genius piano player Mark Thompson, Johnny O’Neal, Gene Bertoncini, Warren Vaché, Houston Person, Roni Ben-Hur and many others.

Doors open at 4:30 with Amani’s performance beginning at 7:00. $5 music charge and a $25 food & drink minimum per person. Reservations are always recommended.
